Prof Dr SAHIN ALBAYRAK

Prof. Dr. Sahin Albayrak holds a professorship chair for Agent Technologies in Business Applications and Telecommunication (AOT) at the Technische Universität Berlin. He is also head of the DAI-Labor, a distributed artificial intelligence laboratory, currently employing about 100 researchers, graduate students, postdocs and support staff. Sahin Albayrak obtained his Dr.-Ing. degree in 1992 and a habilitation (German postdoctoral lecture qualification) in 2002, both from the TU Berlin.
Prof. Albayrak is member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), as well as of Gesellschaft für Informatik (German Computer Science Society, GI), and the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). He is also member of the steering board of Deutsche Telekom Laboratories (T-Labs) and a member of the research initiative "Vernetzte Welten" of the incentive circle initiated by the German Government for cooperation between industry and academia "Partner für Innovation".

Dario Bonino (Ph.D) is a research assistant in the e-Lite research group at the Department of Computer Science and Automation of Politecnico di Torino. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics and Computer Science Engineering, respectively, from Politecnico di Torino in 2002 and 2006. His current research interests include Semantic Web technologies, with a particular focus on architectures for semantic annotation, indexing and retrieval of web resources, domotics and semantic-aware, home-related technologies, distributed systems, multi-agent systems and semantics-aware web architectures. Currently he is "technical manager" of the H-DOSE open source semantic elaboration platform (http://dose.sourceforge.net) and collaborates to several other open source projects including ontosphere3D (http://ontosphere.sourceforge.net). He published 15 papers at international conferences.

Pierre-François Bonnefoi is Assistant Professor at the XLIM Laboratory (UMR CNRS 6172) of the University of Limoges (France). He obtained his Ph.D at the University of Limoges (France) in June 1999 and since january 2004 he is the leader of the Security of Information team. Since december 2005, Pierre-François is responsible for Limoges of the SARAH (Services distribués Asynchrones pour Réseaux Ad Hoc / Delay-Tolerant Distributed Services for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks) project. This project funded by the ANR (Agence Nationale pour la Recherche / National Agency for the Research) involves the LaBRI (Bordeaux, France), LIH (Le Havre, France), VALORIA (Vannes, France) and XLIM (Limoges, France) laboratories.
His favourite research interests are Computer Science, Network and Security.

Franco Borello (M.S.) is a research assistant in the e-Lite research group at the Department of Computer Science and Automation of Politecnico di Torino. He received his M.S. degree in Electronics Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2004. He has been involved in a collaboration with Fiat-Auto and Politecnico di Torino concerning the development of UML-based modelling techniques and of prediction methodologies for functional and reliability characterization of automotive electronic systems. His current research interests include domotics, home-related technologies and digital terrestrial television technologies. Currently he is involved in the development of the TV-Smart project sponsored by Progetto Lagrange-Fondazione CRT and C.R.I.T.-Rai.

Jacques Bus, born in the Netherlands in 1947, studied Mathematics at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD with a thesis in Numerical Mathematics. He worked as a researcher at CWI (Amsterdam) for 15 years. In 1988 he joined the European Commission services in the Unit for Computer Integrated Manufacturing in the Esprit programme. Since then he has been responsible for programme wide operational and organisational affairs in the Esprit and IST programme and for Informatics support in DG Information Society. From June 2000 till March 2004 he was Head of the Unit Software Technologies and Distributed Systems in the IST programme, which included the coordination of activities on Open Source Software within the IST programme. Since early 2003 he has been active in the preparation of a European Security Research Programme addressing development of multidisciplinary, integrated solutions for the security of citizens. From March 2004 he has taken responsibilities for the unit ICT for Trust and Security in the IST Programme, which includes Research and technology Development for Network and Information System Security, Trustworthy Computing and DRM, Biometrics, Identity management and Critical Information Infrastructure Protection.

Stefano Campadello received his M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Padova in 1995 and his Lic. Tech. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Helsinki in 2003. In 2001 he joined Nokia Research Center (NRC) in the Software Technology Laboratory, where he has contributed as a technology expert in several projects related to SW architectures and platforms. Examples include trust and privacy, security implications of social applications, and security in P2P networks. Stefano has been a strong contributor in the preparation and planning of several EU-projects and has also acted as a reviewer of EU-project proposals. He has several international publications and his research interests are in trust and security as well as user interaction aspects of SW platforms and architectures for de-centralized computing networks.

Fulvio Corno (Associate Professor) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Automation of Politecnico di Torino. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics and Computer Science Engineering, respectively, from Politecnico di Torino in 1991 and 1995. He is (or was) involved in several European IV FP ESPRIT (ATSEC, FOST) and V FP IST projects (AMATISTA), SOCRATES-ODL (MOISE), SOCRATES-MINERVA (CABLE), e-Learning (PRAISE), IV FP NoE (COGAIN).

Mrs. Ir. Harmke de Groot is currently working as lead program manager at the European Microsoft Innovation Center in Aachen, which has the mission to create technology through collaborative applied research. EMIC researchers work on Pervasive Networking, Sensor and context management, Web Services , Dynamic Security, Service Level Agreement and Workflow solutions that can be applied in the home, mobile and enterprise domain. Before joining Microsoft she was Ambient Intelligence system architect and European project manager at Philip Research, working on connected home platforms and leading the IST FP6 Amigo and BETSY projects. She started her industrial career at Philips Semiconductors, now NXP, as a system architect in the area of communication systems, where she contributed to the standardisation and development of the first Bluetooth baseband solution.

Sabine Delaitre is a Computer Scientist with a Doctorate (since December 2000) in the areas of Artificial Intellience, Knowledge Management and Risk Management from the Ecole des Mines de Paris and in collaboration with the French Research organisation INRIA at Sophia Antipolis. During the period 2001-2004, she worked on a number of EU-funded projects in areas of computer network security, Knowledge Management for eGovernment, eBusiness and eLearning domains. In July 2004, she joined the ICT unit, IPTS, European Commission's DG JRC. She is currently working on projects related to Cybersecurity activities (Future of Identity, Privacy, Security, Threat and Ambient Intelligence Space) and on FIDIS: Network of Excellence for the Future of IDentity in the Information Society.

Bernadette Dorizzi was born in 1955 and she got her PhD (Thèse d'état) in Theoretical Physics at the University of Orsay (Paris XI-France) in 1983, on the study of integrability of dynamical systems. She is Professor at Institut National des Télécommunications since September 1989, at the head of the Electronics and PHysics department since 1995 where she is in charge of the Intermedia (Interaction for Multimedia) research team. Her present reseach activity is related to the biometric domain. She is coordinator of the Bio-Identity GET research project (http://www.int-evry/biometrics) and of the BioSecure Network of Excellence (http://biosecure.info). She is author of more than 300 research papers and has supervized 15 Phd thesis.

Paolo Giorgini is researcher at University of Trento. He received his Ph.D. degree from Computer Science Institute of University of Ancona (Italy) in 1998. Between March and October 1998 he worked at University of Macerata and University of Ancona as research assistant. In November 1998 he joined the Mechanized Reasoning Group (MRG) at University of Trento as pos-doc researcher. In December 1998 he was researcher visiting at the Computer Science Department of University of Toronto (Canada) and more recently he was visiting researcher at the Software Engineering Department of University of Technology in Sydney.
He has worked on the development of requirements and design languages for agent-based systems, and the application of knowledge representation techniques to software repositories and software development. He is one of the funder of Tropos, an agent-based oreineted software engineering methodology. His publication list includes more than 130 refereed journal and conference proceedings papers and eight edited books. He has been the coordinator for University of Trento of the European's Network of Excellence for Agent-Based Computing (AgentLink I, II, and III), and he has contributed to the organization of international conferences as chair and program committee member, such as CoopIS, ER, CAiSE, AAMAS, EUMAS, AOSE, AOIS, and ISWC. He is Co-editor in Chief of the International Journal of Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (IJAOSE).

Dr. Benjamin Hirsch studied Artificial Intelligence at the University of Amsterdam, and obtained his PhD at the University of Liverpool (with distinction, and currently pending for the "distinguished dissertation award 2006" of the BCS). He is the Director of the Competence Center Agent Core Technologies at the DAI Labor of the Technische Universität Berlin. Under his supervision, the competence center staffs several projects related to serviceware frameworks and service engineering. He is also managing director of the project offices of the DAI Labor. Furthermore, he is actively involved in research on agent technologies and has authored a number of papers, as well as reviewed in numerous agent related conferences.

Wide Hogenhout obtained his first degree in computer science at the Free University of Amsterdam. He holds a Ph.D. from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Japan, on the topic of natural language processing and machine learning. After this he worked in industry for a number of years doing research on automatic speech recognition and dialogue management for speech recognition systems. In 2004 he joined the Future and Emerging Technologies unit of the European Commission, where he is responsible for initiatives around Global Computing and Situated and Autonomic Communication.

Dr. Silke Holtmanns studied Mathematics with Computer Science at the Heriott Watt University Edinburgh (Scotland) and University of Paderborn (Germany), where she received her Diploma in 1996. She was working in research and education a the University of Paderborn as a Scientific Employee and received in 2000 her Ph. D. in Mathematics. In 2000 she started at the Ericsson Eurolab Deutschland GbmH Aachen (Germany) in the Research department of Service Networks and Applications Technology. Since 2004 she is affiliated with the Nokia Research Center in Helsinki (Finland) Software and Applications Technology Department. She has written many scientific articles on mobile security, privacy and trust and was working in several program commitees. She has been involved and in various standardization bodies e.g. 3GPP Security, TISPAN, OMA, Liberty Alliance and is currently rapporteur of five ETSI specifications. She was team member of several European Union projects such as SERENITY, PAMPAS, MobiLife and Ambient Networks. Her research interest lies on the creation of trustworthy relationships in mobile communities and networks.

Dr. Martin Illsley is Director of Accenture Technology Labs Europe. He is an expert on all aspects of emerging technologies and technology innovation, including identifying strategic technology trends, their business implications and applied research and development.
As Director of the Labs, Martin leads Accenture's European technology R&D organization whose mission is to turn technology innovation into business results. He heads up the Labs' team enabling organizations across all industries to access innovative, patent-protected technology solutions and prototypes to help them enhance their business performance. For example, he created a retail banking vision, from conception to project planning, and for an oil and gas company he developed a vision of how their industry is being affected by new technologies.
Often quoted in the media in publications such as The Financial Times, Information Week, Computing, Retail Week Store of the Future, The Guardian, Martin is sought out for his provocative points of view on technology trends and his visionary presentations.
Since joining Accenture in 1991, Martin has worked with many clients from some of the world's largest companies across a wide range of industries advising C-level executives on new technologies and innovation. Martin has worked on identifying business implications of many technologies ranging from mainframe, batch and legacy systems through ecommerce and multimedia to silent commerce and intelligent systems. He studied mathematics at Brunel University and received a PhD in Computer Science from Edinburgh University in 1988.

Thomas Kirste studied computer science at Technical University of Darmstadt and received diploma and PhD. As head at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics he installed the new departments Mobile Multimedia Technologies (in Ros-tock) and Interactive Multimedia Appliances (Darmstadt). In December 2004 he was appointed Professor at Rostock Uni-versity and since holds the chair for Mobile Multimedia Information Systems. Along with his associates Thomas Kirste re-searchs technologies for situation aware spontaneous cooperation of information appliances.

Previously she was in charge of the specification of the vehicle's "key-card" for the M2-S car range (Laguna2) and of the development of the Services Integration Platform using this contactless card.
She got a PhD on Computer Science on Protocols formal specification and validation at CNAM- Paris in 1988.

Ioannis Maghiros holds a Master's Degree in Information Science from the University of Birmingham, UK, having originally studied Physics. He currently works at the European Commission's DG Joint Research Centre, Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, in Seville Spain as a Principal Scientific Officer in charge of the Cyber-security sector. He has been working for the European Commission since 1990 as a scientific Officer engaged in various research activities in the field of Information and Communication Technologies including leading the team working on the development and operation of the e-payment systems Observatory (ePSO). He was also in charge of the production of 'The IPTS Report' and the development and implementation of the European Science and Technology Observatory (ESTO) Network. Prior to joining the European Commission he had been working for IBM in Greece.

Born in 1948 in Slovakia. He studied Mathematics with graduation in 1971, and received the PhD. in Computational Mathematics in 1981. In 1990 he became a head of the first Department of Artificial Intelligence in Czechoslovakia.
From 1994 Prof. Peter Mikulecký serves as the head of the Department of Information Technologies at the University of Hradec Králové. He is a member of numerous scientific committees. Since 2004 he is a member of the Accreditation Commission of the Government of the Slovak Republic.
His professional interests cover knowledge technologies and systems, knowledge management, artificial intelligence, and human - machines cooperation and interaction.

Marketta Niemelä (M. Psych., Ph.D.) is a Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. She received her doctoral degree in user-friendly computer interfaces and visualisation in 2003. Currently her research interests consider human-centred design, user experience, and ethical issues of ambient intelligence and smart environments. In particular, she works in mobile-centric ambient intelligence projects.

Her doctoral dissertation was focused on application of knowledge management principles in virtual learning environments. YVES PUNIE

Since May 2001, Yves Punie works as a researcher at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Seville, one of joint research centres of the European Commission. In general, his projects deal with the socio-economic and technological monitoring and analysis of the future of domestic new media technologies such as Ambient Intelligence. Punie holds a Phd. in Social Sciences (Media Studies) at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). His doctoral thesis was on the use and acceptance of ICTs in everyday life, also known as domestication of ICTs (June 2000). He was interim Assistant Professor in the Sociology of Technology & Media at the VUB and senior researcher at SMIT (Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication). His expertise is on social studies of new technologies, especially in relation to the domestic environment and the future of media industries.

DAMIEN SAUVERON

Since 2004/09 Damien Sauveron is assistant Professor at the XLIM Laboratory (UMR CNRS 6172) of the University of Limoges (France) where he is member of the "Security of Information" team. He obtained his Ph.D in Computer Science at the University Bordeaux 1 (France) in December 2004. The subject of his thesis that he carried out in the
Distributed Systems and Objects team of the LaBRI was on the Java Card security (development of an emulator to experiment attacks against Java Card platform and applets; modeling some security problems). He introduced the concept of pre-persistance in Java Card and he highlighted a new category of attacks on the open multiapplication smart cards. From 2001/09 to 2004/09, he worked on the Java Card security in the ITSEF (Information Technology Security Evaluation Facilities) of SERMA Technologies. From 2006/02 to 2006/04, he was invited researcher at the Royal Holloway, University of London and from 2006/04 to 2006/08 he was in a postdoctoral position of the Smart Card Centre (SCC) in the Information Security Group (ISG) of the Royal Holloway. His research interests are Security of
Smart Card (at hardware and software level), Security of the Java Card technology and multiapplication smart cards, Security of Mobile ad hoc networks, Security of Distributed Objects and Systems, Security evaluation/certification processes, and Smart Card applications.
Damien Sauveron is member of the IFIP WG 8.8 Smart Cards and of the IFIP WG 11.2 Small System Security.

Pascal joined SAP Research Sophia Antipolis in December 2003.
He is currently working on the R4EGov FP6 project, as a member of the "Business Process Management and "Semantic Integration" research program. Prior to this he worked 2 years in the Securityand Trust program for the eJustice project, a time during which his activities included the design of an access-control architecture for workflow management systems,
which lead to several publications and patents.
In addition Pascal designed and implemented Gabriel, the task management component of the SAP Research tool suite.
He obtained his master's degree in computer science in 2003 from the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis.

Dr. rer. nat. Dr. phil. Norbert Streitz (Ph. D. in physics and Ph.D. in psychology)
is a Senior Scientist and Strategic Advisor with more than 20 years of experience in
information and communication technology. He initiated and managed the research division
"AMBIENTE Smart Environments of the Future" at the Fraunhofer institute IPSI in
Darmstadt, Germany, where he also teaches at the Department of Computer Science of
the Technical University Darmstadt. He has published/edited 16 books and (co)authored
more than 100 technical papers. He was the Chair of the Steering Group of the EU-funded
research initiative "The Disappearing Computer" and was involved in many other EU-funded
projects and efforts. He is now the co-chair of the recently established ERCIM Working
Group Smart Environments and Systems for Ambient Intelligence (SESAMI).

CEDRIC ULMER

Cedric joined SAP Research in Sophia Antipolis in January 2002.
He is currently working on risk management related issues. His focus is on the eMergency project, which deals with helping firefighters onsite through a SAP NetWeaver portal. It integrates technologies such as a GIS, geolocalisation of vehicles, and retrieval of logistics
data.
Cedric is also part of the French pole de competitive Risques that groups industries and academics interested in risk oriented topics. Before this, he worked for the Consensus project, as a Workpackage Leader. This FP5 Project was developing a Device Independent Markup Language for User Interfaces, as well as the adaptation engine that translates this new language into a compatible markup language. He has been member of the W3C-Device Independence Working Group for two years, as editor of the Core Presentation Characteristics document.
He holds the Telecom INT "Grande ecole" diploma, specialized in Corporate Communications at the Eurecom institute.

Mr Jukka Vanhala is a professor at the Tampere University of Technology, Institute of Electronics, being responsible of teaching embedded systems. Vanhala is also a head of the Kankaapää Research Unit for Wearable Technology. His research interests include ambient intelligence, smart garments and embedded systems. He received his Master of Science in 1985, Licentiate of Technology in 1990 and Doctor of Technology in Computer Science in 1998, all from Tampere University of Technology. Vanhala has worked in the academics for 15 years and in the industry for 5 years both in Finland and in the USA.

Eric Vetillard is the CTO of Trusted Labs, a spin-off from Trusted Logic that provides security-related services. He is in particular responsible for the security evaluation of embedded Java platforms and applications (Java Card, J2ME).
Before that, he has been Chief Architect at Trusted Logic, and Java Architect at Gemplus. He has been an active member of the Java Card Forum since its inception in 1997, and he has contributed to all Java Card specifications.
Eric Vetillard is a regular speaker at JavaOne, eSmart, and other technical conferences. He holds a M.S. from Florida State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Marseille.

Dr.-Ing. Konrad Wrona is a Principal Investigator at SAP Research Lab in Sophia Antipolis, France. He has over seven years of work experience in an industrial (SAP Research and Ericsson Research) and in an academic (RWTH Aachen University, Media Lab Europe, and Rutgers University) research and development environment. He is an author and a co-author
of over twenty publications, as well as a co-inventor of seven patents. The areas of his professional interests include security in communication networks, wireless and mobile applications, distributed systems, applications of sensor networks, and electronic commerce.

Zheng Yan received her Licentiate from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2005. She has two M.Eng degrees got from the Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1997 and the National University of Singapore in 2000, respectively. She joined the Nokia Research Center in 2000, located at Helsinki, Finland. Prior to this, she worked in Singapore as a research scholar at the Institute of Information Research for secure and fair e-payment research and a software engineer at an IBM partner company for developing an IBM global electronic ordering system. She is a member of the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society. Her current research interests are trust modeling and management, trusted computing and communications.

Professor Laurence T. Yang teaches at the St. Francis-Xavier University of Halifax (Canada). His research interests cover ambient intelligence in general as well as design and test of embedded systems, high performance computing and networking, ubiquitous/pervasive computing and intelligence, autonomic and trusted computing and computational science and engineering. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Ubiquitous Computing and Intelligence (American Scientific Publishers) in which the two best AmI.d papers will be published. His contribution to scientific publications also include being editor or guest editor of journals such as the International Journal of Security and Networks (IJSN), the Journal of Computer Science (JCS). His published work comprises books for which he has been appointed editor-in-chief or editor: Handbook on Mobile Ad Hoc and Pervasive Communications (American Scientific Publishers, 2006).
As a keynote speaker, he has recently taken part in leading-edge scientific conferences such as the 2006 International Symposium on Embedded Engineering (Korea) and the 11th International CSI Conference on Computer Conference (CSICC-06, Iran). He is scheduled as keynote speaker at the AmI.d conference. He has also been awarded Best Paper at the IEEE AINA-06 conference among 521 submissions.
